Netflix is developing a live-action PUBG: Battlegrounds series with Donald Glover set to write, direct, star, and executive produce, according to reports from Variety and Deadline, per Destructoid. His brother and longtime collaborator Stephen Glover will co-write and executive produce.
The show is at an early stage: Destructoid noted it "apparently hasn't been greenlit" yet, and plot details are being kept under wraps. For a game whose story is 100 people jumping out of a plane, that may be less a secret than a blank page.
The details
The Glover brothers previously co-wrote and produced FX's Atlanta, which Donald created and starred in, winning Emmys for acting and directing, and later reunited on Amazon's Swarm, per Inven Global. Krafton's entertainment division, LV3H, is handling development on the publisher's side.
Krafton first announced plans for PUBG film and TV projects in 2020, and an animated series from Adi Shankar announced in 2021 was previously in development at Netflix. PUBG launched in 2017 as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and helped kick off the modern battle royale boom, but the game has no story campaign, so the series will need to build one from scratch.
The live-action series is the most concrete step yet in Krafton's long-running plan to take PUBG beyond games, with an Emmy-winning creator attached but no greenlight, cast beyond Glover, or premiere window confirmed.
