When a game leaves a permanent mark, even Hollywood’s biggest prestige adaptation cannot compete with the memory of the controller.

Actor Tom Holland will not be tuning into HBO's critically acclaimed adaptation of The Last of Us because he is simply too attached to the original source material, the actor revealed in recent interviews. Holland declared Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II as his favorite video game of all time—a bond so sacred that watching another cast step into the cordyceps apocalypse is apparently a bridge too far.
According to Holland, his deep love for the game is the sole reason he has avoided the television series entirely. It is a classic modern dilemma: when you have spent dozens of hours guiding a character through the mud yourself, watching someone else do it on a premium cable budget just feels like letting someone else drive your car.
The details
While Holland's loyalty to single-player narrative misery remains ironclad, his tolerance for multiplayer chaos has hit a firm wall. The actor also noted during interviews that he has given up on playing Fortnite, though not out of any artistic protest. He simply finds the battle royale's learning curve too difficult to manage.
Sometimes the digital wilderness is best conquered at your own pace—or in Holland's case, not at all if there are teenage players building five-story hotels in front of you.
