TL;DR — what matters
• Fixed boats that moved uncontrollably and skills that weren't working.
• Console players can now adjust Bloom, Light Shafts and Depth of Field.
• Switch 2 is getting its own update later.
Boat physics — Fixed a bug that made boats move uncontrollably.
Console visual options — Bloom, Light Shafts and Depth of Field can now be adjusted on PS5 and Xbox.
Console bug fixes — Fixed custom visual settings resetting on PS5 and voiceover getting quieter after using pause menu tabs.
PC settings — Updates to Dynamic Resolution Scaling and GTAO Quality.
What it means for the meta
No gameplay meta changes. This is a stability and settings patch, so console players finally get the visual controls PC players already had.
CD Projekt Red has released Patch 5.01 for The Witcher 3 Remastered on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the first fix-up for the free upgrade since it launched just days ago. The headline fixes: boats that moved uncontrollably, and a much-requested Bloom toggle for console players.
Geralt of Rivia may be a mutated monster slayer, but his skill set historically stopped short of handling a boat with a mind of its own. Patch 5.01 corrects the physics error behind it, along with a set of skills that weren't working properly and several interface tweaks.
The details
Console players can now switch Bloom on and off, a setting PC players had been disabling to get rid of the remaster's bright, washed-out look. Light Shafts and Depth of Field are now adjustable too, a level of control usually reserved for the PC crowd. The patch also fixes a bug that reset custom visual settings on PS5, and one that made dialogue noticeably quieter after moving through pause menu tabs.
The Switch 2 version isn't part of Patch 5.01. CD Projekt Red says it is "working on an update for the Nintendo Switch 2 version" that will bring it closer to parity with the other platforms, including the same global changes. No release date was given.
For now, the rest of the Continent can at least sail in a straight line again.
