Blizzard Entertainment is officially launching World of Warcraft: Forever in November 2026, the studio announced. The closed beta for World of Warcraft: Forever began on September 17, 2026, and runs through October 21, 2026. The new mode delivers the highly anticipated "Classic Plus" experience, serving as an alternate-history version of vanilla Azeroth that will run in tandem with existing Classic and vanilla servers. For players who have spent years running the same decade-old leveling routes, the news means finally getting some new scenery without having to leave the comfort zone.

"The expansion of the vanilla leveling experience is built to coexist with what players already know," Blizzard said during the reveal. Instead of pushing past the level 60 cap, the update seeks to build outward, preserving the original visual style and mechanical foundation while adding entirely new content branches.
The details
While the core systems and low-polygon aesthetic remain untouched, the geography of Azeroth is getting a heavy rewrite. The leveling experience will feature rebuilt zones alongside the 1,000 new quests, filling in gaps that have existed since 2004. Players can expect nine new dungeons and scalable raids designed for 10 to 20 players, providing fresh endgame progression without raising the level cap. Blizzard also confirmed the addition of a completely new playable race, though specific faction details remain under wraps.
According to the studio, a closed beta test is scheduled to begin running in the days immediately following the official BlizzCon announcement. This trial phase will give select players their first look at the revamped zones and overhauled progression systems before the full launch. Unlike previous classic iterations that simply preserved historical code, this release represents Blizzard's first direct development of entirely new, non-expansion content for the vanilla framework.
The "Classic Plus" concept has been a prominent community wish list item for years, serving as a compromise between historical preservation and fresh gameplay. By keeping WoW: Forever separate from standard Classic and vanilla servers, Blizzard is attempting to satisfy both purists who want their 2004 code left untouched and veterans looking for a reason to restart the grind.
