Chandler Riggs is taking survival horror into his own hands with a live-action fan adaptation of Resident Evil 7, scheduled to launch on YouTube on October 14, 2026. The former Walking Dead actor wrote, directed, and stars in the indie project, stepping into the boots of protagonist Ethan Winters — face included.
"It was absolutely an intimidating thing. We’re trying to do so much else super faithful and true to the game, but this is a huge aspect that we are breaking from it. But there isn’t really another good way to tell [the story] in a live-action format," Riggs told IGN regarding the decision to show Ethan's face, a major departure from the first-person game where the protagonist's visage remains obscured.
While Zach Cregger's official Resident Evil feature film continues its box-office run, Riggs explained to IGN that his fan project was not inspired by Cregger's movie. In fact, Riggs initially aimed to launch his fan adaptation before the official theatrical release, though production timelines pushed his premiere to October 14. Riggs also considered shooting the entire film in first-person to mirror Capcom's gameplay, but ultimately opted for traditional filmmaking to keep the release accessible to general audiences.
The details
Riggs added that he remains open to collaborating on potential official entries in Capcom's horror franchise down the line, leaving his fan production as a standalone tribute for anyone willing to revisit the Baker house.
