Watch

Co-op action roguelite Shape of Dreams has officially launched on Xbox Series X|S and is available on Xbox Game Pass starting today, September 15, 2026. Developer Lizard Smoothie confirmed the game originally debuted on Steam on September 10 or 11, 2025, while the Xbox release was on September 15, 2026, meaning the Xbox launch is over a year after the PC debut. For those who prefer sharing their night terrors with friends, the release features full cross-play support.

The game originally debuted on Steam in September 2025, drawing in more than 1.5 million players during its first year on the market. It joins Microsoft's subscription library alongside other recent indie arrivals like Aniimo. Xbox players can also claim a free console-exclusive "Crimson Flash Lacerta" costume in-game.

What is the Starless Path update?

The Xbox release launches alongside "The Starless Path," which the developer described as the game's largest content update to date. The update introduces Cetus, a frost-wielding ranged fighter who can control the battlefield with glaciers or pivot into a heavy melee bruiser depending on player builds.

Additionally, the update introduces "The Way of Stars," a progression system that maps each character's episodes like a constellation to unlock hidden stories, emotes, and illustrations. Completing these paths unlocks a new ending guarded by an upgraded, harder final boss.

The details

  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S (already available on PC)
  • Price: Included with Xbox Game Pass
  • Co-op: Up to 4-player online co-op with cross-play
  • New Content: Cetus (the 9th playable character), Way of Stars progression, and six new Identity Memories

What else is included?

Because the game spent a year maturing on Steam, Xbox players receive the cumulative results of twelve months of balance passes and mechanical overhauls on day one. This includes "Limbo"—an endgame difficulty tier designed to make Nightmare mode feel like a gentle nap—as well as revamped critical strike mechanics, new shrines, and performance optimizations.

The game's core loop revolves around mixing and matching over 200 Memories and Essences to customize characters, meaning players are encouraged to break the game's balance rather than follow a pre-solved build guide.

Whether you decide to brave the dreamscape alone or drag three friends into the Rapids with you, the entire package is ready to download. Just remember to claim your free costume before you dive in.
