Developer Screen Burn has rolled out a major balance update for the psychological horror title, toning down its most punishing stalker and offering players a fighting chance.
The short version

TL;DR — what matters
• The Weight's instant-death attack is removed on Story and Normal modes, dealing heavy damage instead.
• Enemies have reduced sound sensitivity and can no longer grapple players who are actively blocking.
• Performance improvements resolve stuttering and enhance frame pacing on PS5 and PC.
The Weight Behavior — Reduced door-camping, toned down aggressive tracking, and disabled instant-death on Story/Normal modes.
Enemy Alertness — Decreased overall enemy sensitivity to player sounds.
Combat Mechanics — Standard enemies can no longer grapple players who are blocking with melee weapons.
Puzzles and UI — Added a manual for the Remote Systems Control and a new hint for the final puzzle.
What it means for the meta
These changes significantly lower the frustration factor of stealth and combat, giving players more breathing room to survive encounters without repetitive instant-death loops.
If you’ve spent any time sweating in the dark while a towering manifestation of dread blocks your only exit, you know exactly how tense Silent Hill: Townfall can get. The Weight—the relentless stalker hounding Simon through the fog—is finally getting its aggressive tracking dialed back.
According to the official patch notes published on Konami's website, Patch 1.4.0 (v1.5.154194) is now live, delivering a major overhaul to the game's most terrifying threat. At launch, running into this creature was a swift, one-way ticket to a game-over screen. The Weight was notorious for camping directly outside objective doors and repeatedly searching the exact same spots, forcing players to wait out incredibly long, tense stalemates.
With the new update, developer Screen Burn is giving players some much-needed breathing room. The Weight will no longer camp outside doors indefinitely, and Konami has made its overall tracking algorithms less aggressive. Most notably, the creature's lethal attack has been heavily adjusted: on Story and Normal difficulty modes, getting caught by The Weight will now only deal heavy damage instead of triggering an instant death.
Other gameplay adjustments in Patch 1.4.0 aim to smooth out the overall survival experience. Standard enemies across the game are now less sensitive to sound, and players will have more time to react after escaping a grapple. Furthermore, regular enemies can no longer grapple Simon if he is already blocking with a melee weapon. For those struggling with the game's puzzle design, the update adds a manual for the Remote Systems Control and introduces a helpful new hint for the final puzzle.
The details
On the technical side, the patch tackles performance optimization. Screen Burn has addressed graphical issues to reduce stuttering and improve frame pacing, while also adding missing key bindings for AZERTY keyboard layouts.
