PC Performance — Patch 1.3.1 addresses stuttering issues on PC
The Weight Boss Fight — Upcoming update promised to balance and ease the frustrating final encounter
What it means for the meta
Patch 1.3.1 cleans up PC performance, while the upcoming gameplay balance patch aims to make the exhausting final boss more manageable.
Developer Screen Burn has announced that an upcoming update will balance "The Weight," the final boss encounter in Silent Hill: Townfall, following the release of a stability patch on PC. Just a week after the horror game's release, the studio is moving quickly to address the main challenge halting player progress.
"We've heard you on struggles with The Weight — gameplay balancing on it's way asap," the developer announced in a post on X, demonstrating that even psychological horror is not immune to a rogue apostrophe.
The details
The immediate release, Patch 1.3.1, is a technical clean-up operation aimed directly at stuttering issues on PC. However, the promised follow-up patch targets design rather than frame rates.
The Weight pursues protagonist Simon Ordell throughout the streets of St. Amelia. In its current state, the final encounter is challenging, with the creature acting as a significant damage sponge, compounded by standard enemies spawning into the arena to disrupt the fight. While Screen Burn has not detailed the exact adjustments, the promise of "balancing" suggests potential changes to the boss's health pool or enemy spawn rates.
Addressing critical player complaints quickly is a priority as Konami attempts to revive the franchise. Following the successful release of Silent Hill f, Konami producer Motoi Okamoto told Famitsu that the publisher's current strategy is to release one franchise title per year.
"We'd like to keep the buzz around Silent Hill constant," Okamoto explained, while acknowledging, "we're not sure how far we can achieve this."
Konami has relied on outsourcing, collaborating with external teams for spin-offs and Bloober Team for the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2. For a publisher trying to keep a legacy brand consistently in the conversation, addressing a significant design issue in a new release is crucial.
No release date has been set for the balance patch, leaving players to either face the current encounter or wait for adjustments.
Will you wait for the balance patch to finish the game?
