Map, Compass, Bomb Bag, the skull puzzle and King Dodongo, then Din's Fire, the crater, grottos, Bombchu Bowling and 5 Pieces of Heart.
Updated Nov 6, 2026. Unofficial guide by Nexzy.
This page has story spoilers (Inside the Deku Tree).
Darunia's deal: clear the beast out of Dodongo's Cavern and the Spiritual Stone of Fire is yours. Inside, you'll be throwing Bomb Flowers at everything until you find a Bomb Bag of your own. The page then covers everything bombs open up: Death Mountain's summit, the crater, grottos all over Hyrule and two Great Fairies.

Tip
Business Scrub Seeds are new in the remake: plant one almost anywhere to call a Business Scrub who sells hearts, seeds and sticks. Think of it as a shop in your pocket.
Get the Dungeon Map
Throw the Bomb Flower by the entrance at the cracked wall to open the real cavern. A giant Dodongo skull fills the main hall. The plaque says the dead Dodongo will guide you to the hidden path.
Jump to the small platform in the lava. The lava is shallow but burns you the whole time you stand in it.
Ride it up to the center, where a Beamos fires a laser at whatever its spinning eye sees. Avoid it for now and take the rising platform to the west side.
Throw the west Bomb Flower (with R) next to the Beamos. Its head drops and blows up a moment later, so step back.
Bomb the south alcove (Blue Rupee), then the north alcove: Dungeon Map.
Grab a Bomb Flower, ride the platform back to the center and throw it at the center Beamos. Cross to the east side.
Bomb that Beamos, then the north alcove (a Sheikah Stone) and the south alcove, which opens a door.
Get the Compass
Baby Dodongos charge you in the hallway and blow up shortly after you cut them, so hit and back off. Ignore the high alcove for now.
At the end of the hall, three more Baby Dodongos appear by a cracked wall on the right. Kill one next to the wall: the blast breaks it and reveals a Gold Skulltula.
Up the ledge, the door opens only while something is on the floor plate. Pull one of the statues onto it.
Watch for Keese in the next hallway, then fight two Lizalfos on the platforms over the lava. They take turns. Crouch behind your shield and stay still: it blocks from every side, even when they jump over you. Hit back when they stumble. If one retreats, don't chase it: get ready for the other. Pots at the back have hearts. The chest that appears holds a Red Rupee, and a narrow ledge behind the lavafall on the east has Blue Rupees and a fairy in pots.
Take the northwest door and bomb the sealed door with the Bomb Flower on the left. Reflect the Business Scrub's nut and buy Deku Sticks: you need them next.
Dodongos (full size) can't be hurt from the front and breathe fire. Strafe, wait for one to inhale, then run behind it and hit the tail. Back off when it spins. They explode when they die.
Light a Deku Stick on the lit torch and light the three braziers before they go out. The door opens back to the main hall: step on the switch to open the far door.
In the west room, bomb the cracked wall to the south. The far statue is an Armos: swords do nothing. Lure it next to the Bomb Flower by the entrance, light it, and run while it thrashes and explodes. Climb the ladder: Compass.
Get the Bomb Bag
North of the Armos room, a raised staircase is ringed with Bomb Flowers that have a gap at the front. Put the lone Bomb Flower nearby into the gap: they all chain-explode and the stairs sink so you can climb them.
Before you leave the upper level on the south side, turn around: a Gold Skulltula hangs on the mesh wall among Skullwalltulas. Shoot them and climb up.
Fire Keese fly in the next room. Equip the Hylian Shield from here on or they'll burn your Kokiri Shield. Shoot them, or block them to put their flames out.
Every statue around the center platform is an Armos except the south one, in front of the only working ladder. Bomb the Armos before they wake, pull the south statue out of the way, climb, and hit the switch to open the east door.
Cross the upper bridge over the main hall (jump the gap) into a room of high platforms with spike traps sliding underneath.
On the far east side, a cracked wall sits above a broken ladder. Dodge the spikes, pull the square stone down under the ladder, and climb onto the platforms. There's a Bomb Flower (and a chest with Deku Seeds). Throw the Bomb Flower up to the cracked wall.
Shoot the eye switch to put out the burning platform. Baby Dodongos jump out of the lava in the next hall.
Beat two more Lizalfos the same way. A small chest appears on a narrow path above the first arena: Business Scrub Seed.
On the way back there are two burning platforms. Shoot the first eye, jump, then turn left and shoot the second eye through a small window. Jump across fast.
Back in the spike trap room, open the big chest: Bomb Bag.
Open the giant skull
Bomb the cracked wall behind the Bomb Bag chest. It leads back to the main hall: the switch ahead turns one of the lava platforms into an elevator to the second floor.
In the far northeast corner by the skull, bomb another cracked wall. Two Dodongos circle a rock in that room, and a Gold Skulltula is on the other side. An exploding Dodongo can kill it for you.
On the bridge over the skull, the plaque says it opens a path when it sees red. Two small gaps in the bridge sit over the eye sockets: drop a bomb through each. The eyes glow red and the jaw opens.
Bomb the wall at the far end of the bridge for a Blue Rupee.
Optional: go back to the big staircase room, climb to the cracked wall at the top and bomb it: a second Business Scrub Seed.
Reach the boss
Through the skull's mouth, watch for Fire Keese and head north into a room of narrow paths and stone blocks.
Pull the nearby block under the one on the raised path, climb up and push the raised block down.
Push that block all the way to the far wall under the cracked ledge. Throw a bomb onto it to blow the wall open. Climb up: Baby Dodongos, and a Gold Skulltula behind an Armos statue at the back. One bomb takes out both.
Push the fallen block under the block by the south exit and climb over both.
Push the last block off the ledge and into the hole in the floor. The boss door opens.
Bomb the cracked floor inside and drop down.
End of the first hallway: blow up a Baby Dodongo next to the cracked wall on the right.
Mesh wall above the big staircase: turn around on the upper south level before you leave.
Northeast room by the skull: behind the rock two Dodongos are circling.
Before the boss: behind the Armos statue in the room past the bombed ledge.
Boss: King Dodongo
His rocky hide stops your sword, but his mouth doesn't.
Fire breath: when he opens his mouth to charge fire, throw a bomb in (or a Bomb Flower: one grows on each of the four paths around the lava). It explodes inside him and he's stunned with his tongue out. Hit it with stabs or jump attacks.
Rolling: after taking damage he curls up and rolls along the paths. You can't get around him, so back off to a corner, where there's extra room by the lava, and let him hit the wall and turn.
Babies: hitting the wall can call in Baby Dodongos. Cut them down and get space before your next bomb.
Three bombs plus a round of attacks each, and he rolls into the lava. Grab the Heart Container.
Spoiler: Dodongo's Cavern.
Spoiler: Dodongo's Cavern.
Use your bombs: Death Mountain and Goron City
Trail Gold Skulltula: on the way down toward Kakariko, bomb the cracked wall by the Red Tektites. It's there day or night.
Goron City rocks room: on the entrance level, blast the boulders on the upper left. Bomb the cracked rocks right, then left, then straight (the gray and black ones won't break) for two chests with Blue Rupees and a crate with a Gold Skulltula.
Bigger Bomb Bag: one level down, a sign in the tunnel dares you to stop the rolling Goron. Stand at the tunnel entrance and drop a bomb as soon as he enters the far side so it goes off as he passes. He gives you the Bigger Bomb Bag (30 bombs).
Spinning pot (Piece of Heart): from the level above the giant pot, walk the plank and drop a bomb in, ideally when the happy face points at you. If it stops on the happy face, you get a Piece of Heart.
To the Great Fairy
Back on the trail, past the city tunnel on the far west, bomb the cracked wall where the Goron was rolling: chest with a Business Scrub Seed.
Bomb the boulders up the steep northwest path. At the top, one boulder makes a noise: blow it up for a grotto with a cow. Play Epona's Song to it and it fills an empty bottle with Lon Lon Milk.
Near the summit, the volcano erupts and rains fire. Sprint to the far wall and crouch behind the Hylian Shield when rocks come down. Shoot the Skullwalltulas off the mesh and climb.
At the summit, skip Kaepora Gaebora for now. Bomb the cracked wall to his left, stand on the Triforce symbol and play Zelda's Lullaby. Offer 25 Rupees and the Great Fairy gives you Din's Fire, plus a green magic meter under your hearts. Din's Fire blasts every enemy (and anything that burns) around you.
Death Mountain Crater (quick run)
The heat works differently in the remake: there's no timer. Link starts smoking, and after about 4 seconds he flares up and loses a quarter heart every few moments. Any healing resets the 4 seconds, so break pots and rocks for hearts, or drink Lon Lon Milk from the cow.
Run forward. Two wooden crates sit by a pot on the left: roll into the far one for a Gold Skulltula.
Go right between two big rocks to the mesh on the ground. Climb down the wall of the volcano: an alcove below holds a Piece of Heart (it resets the heat too). Climb right back up.
Run northwest to a low platform by a broken bridge blocked by a gray rock. A Business Scrub here sells a Piece of Heart for 100 Rupees. Pricey, worth it.
A brown rock in the west corner above the Scrub hides a grotto: a safe spot from the heat with a Business Scrub Seed chest.
Back to Kakariko
At the summit, talk to Kaepora Gaebora and he flies you down to Kakariko. He lands you on Impa's house.
Before you jump off, go to the back of the roof. A cow pen behind locked gates has a Piece of Heart on its roof. Drop onto it.
You should have over 20 tokens now. In the House of Skulltula, the father gives you the Echo Gem: it pins to your tunic and flashes (with the icon on your screen) when a Gold Skulltula is nearby, faster as you get closer, even if it's hiding in soil, a tree, or waiting for night.
Grottos: cracked rocks on the ground can now be bombed open. One is just around the corner from the House of Skulltula: burn the beehives inside with Din's Fire for lots of Rupees.
Outside Lon Lon Ranch, in the tall dry grass: Fairy Fountain
Lost Woods, next to the Goron City shortcut: bugs
Lost Woods, next to the Sacred Forest Meadow entrance: Business Scrubs, one sells the Bigger Deku Nut Bag for 40 Rupees
Southeast corner of the Lon Lon Ranch track: Business Scrubs
Ring of stones outside Gerudo Valley: a cow and Rupees
Along the moat, east of the Castle Town entrance: Business Scrub
West Hyrule Field, by a campsite north of Kokiri Forest: Rupees
Southeast Hyrule Field wetlands, by a big Peahat
Wooded area south of Lon Lon Ranch, by a big Peahat: a Gold Skulltula inside
