Jabu-Jabu's Belly

Carry Ruto, get the Boomerang, clear the three tentacles, beat Big Octo and Barinade, then the Ocarina of Time, Gerudo Valley and the Door of Time.

This page has story spoilers (Dodongo's Cavern).

Lord Jabu-Jabu swallowed you whole. Inside, it's still a dungeon: switches, sealed doors, a Map, a Compass and a special item. You also have to find Princess Ruto and carry her around. Walk back to his jaws any time to leave: his mouth stays open after that.

Tip

New in the remake: Ruto stays exactly where you put her down, even if you leave the dungeon. No more going back to pick her up.

Get the Dungeon Map

  1. Bounce the two Octoroks' rocks back with your shield, then shoot the glowing thing hanging from the ceiling with the slingshot. The far door opens.
  2. Biri (small jellyfish) shock you if you touch them, even with your sword, and seeds bounce off them. Stun them with a Deku Nut and then cut them, or hit them with a Deku Stick (wood doesn't carry the shock).
  3. In the next room, Ruto refuses help from her father's messenger, walks off and falls through a hole in the floor. Holes are everywhere here, so watch your step. Tip: set Farore's Wind at the top of this room. Follow her down.
  4. On B1, insist on helping and she lets you carry her to find her "precious stone". Pick her up and hold her over your head. Skip the southwest door by the vines for now.
  5. East hall: Shabom bubbles hurt you when they pop on you, and seeds don't work. Throw Ruto at them: she pops them without getting hurt.
  6. In the big room with the sunken middle, put Ruto down and walk to the pit. Stingers come out, hover, and dive. Shoot them or block.
  7. Step on the glowing switch in the middle: the water rises and you can reach the east chest: Dungeon Map.
  8. Climb the vines to the high west ledge: pots and a Gold Skulltula.
  9. Getting Ruto across: go back to her side and hit the other switch to lower the water. Carry her into the pit, throw her across from a raised platform, then raise the water again and swim after her.
  10. Bari (big jellyfish) attack on the way out and split into three Biri. Stun with a Deku Nut, then finish the group with a bomb or Din's Fire.
  11. In the narrow room next door, shoot the ceiling growth past the Octorok. The blue platform from the first room shows up here: an elevator back to 1F.
  12. Before you ride it, dive in the pool on the far side through an underwater tunnel. A Business Scrub sells Deku Nuts, Deku Sticks and Business Scrub Seeds.

Get the Boomerang

  1. Take the elevator to 1F with Ruto and go back to the room where she fell. The hole down to the cut-off part of B1 is covered by a green barrier. A green vein leads from it out the north door.
  2. Get past the Bari and Biri (or put Ruto down and clear them).
  3. The next hall branches into five round rooms linked by colored veins. Take the first left. Set Ruto on the raised switch to hold the door open.
  4. Stingers hide in the floor. Walk up to them one at a time and shoot them, or bunch them up and use Din's Fire. The chest holds the Boomerang: it curves to hit far targets and grabs items on the way back.

Get the Compass and clear the veins

  1. In the main hallway, Tail Passarans (electric eels) have hard heads. Lock onto the tail with Navi and throw the Boomerang: it swings around behind them.
  2. Follow the red vein right. Ruto holds the door. A red tentacle parasite hangs in the middle. Keep strafing while locked on: when it swings, hit the frayed spot in its middle with the Boomerang. A few hits clears the red vein.
  3. Follow the blue vein left. The blue tentacle stabs forward instead of swinging, and Biri float around it (Boomerang them, or throw Ruto). Same trick.
  4. Do the right-hand room without a vein first. It's full of Shabom: spam the Boomerang. The chest holds the Compass.
  5. North room: the green tentacle, with Stingers. It swings, slams several times, then lies stunned on the ground: jump attack it or keep using the Boomerang. The last vein dissolves and the barrier back in the room with the holes is gone. Take Ruto and drop through the blue opening.

Reach the boss

  1. Set Farore's Wind on the ledge you land on. To the north, past some Biri, a Gold Skulltula is on the wall: Boomerang it and the token too.
  2. Optional: drop down and take the southwest door. The wobbling platform attacks if you jump on it, so Boomerang it first to freeze it. Pots and a chest with a Red Rupee.
  3. Back on the ledge, take the hall to the northwest room. Another Gold Skulltula is on the hall's ceiling: Boomerang it.
  4. Ruto spots her stone on the high platform ahead. Throw her up there. She grabs it, and the platform lifts away.
  5. Big Octo fills the ring around the middle. Its weak spot is the green growth on its back. Stun it with the Boomerang as it charges, run around behind it, and jump attack the growth. Boomerang it again if it starts to turn. After a few hits it burrows and leaves Shabom behind: pop them, find where it comes up, and repeat. Three rounds.
  6. Ride the platform up to 2F. Boomerang the two wobbling platforms over the water to cross.
  7. A sealed door needs its switch held down. Ruto's gone, so go down the small platforms, pick up the small stone block, throw it up to the main platform, climb the vines and put it on the switch.
  8. Next room: climb the vines on the back of the tall pillar. A Gold Skulltula is on the way up.
  9. From the top, lock onto the shielded growth in the ceiling and throw the Boomerang: it curves around the barrier and opens the door. Grab supplies from the pots and go in.
  1. B1, high west ledge in the room where you raise the water.
  2. Ledge below the green barrier: on the north wall past the Biri. Boomerang.
  3. Hall to the northwest room: on the ceiling. Boomerang.
  4. Tall pillar on 2F: on the vines on the back side.

Boss: Barinade

An electric anemone hanging from the ceiling, covered in jellyfish.

  1. Cut it loose: keep moving and dodge the lightning. Each of the three cords to the ceiling has a frayed spot near the top: Boomerang them one by one.
  2. Jellyfish shield: it spins its jellyfish around itself. Nothing hurts them or the body right now, so stay away and wait. Its core glows brighter until it shorts out and the shield drops: run in and cut as many jellyfish as you can before it powers back up. You may need two rounds. Pots along the wall have hearts.
  3. Exposed body: it rises with its last jellyfish and turns purple before it charges. Don't lock on: sprint sideways. When the jellyfish slow down, Boomerang the body. It sinks and the jellyfish are open: cut them all.
  4. Flying: it rips out of the floor and flies around firing lightning everywhere. Get close and Boomerang the weak spot. It drops: hit it with jump and spin attacks. Back off when it burrows. Two or three stuns finishes it.

Grab the Heart Container.

Gerudo Valley

The Gerudo guard still won't let you cross the bridge, but there's plenty to grab.

  1. At the little wooden plank over the pool, play the Sun's Song. A Gold Skulltula comes out under the bridge at night.
  2. Grab the Cucco nearby and glide across the valley to the big chest on the far ledge: Piece of Heart.
  3. Take the Cucco again and glide down to the alcove by the river. A friendly Gerudo keeps a cow here (Epona's Song for free milk). Plant your last beans and drop a bug in the soil: Gold Skulltula.
  4. Follow the alcove north to the big waterfall. Climb the path behind it: Piece of Heart.
  5. Jump in the river and ride it to Lake Hylia. At night, walk the rope bridge from the lab and look back: Boomerang the Gold Skulltula just out of reach. Then have Kaepora Gaebora fly you to Hyrule Castle.
