Updated Nov 6, 2026. Unofficial guide by Nexzy.
This page has story spoilers (Dodongo's Cavern).
One Spiritual Stone left: the Stone of Water, kept by the Zoras at the source of Hyrule's river. The river starts just southeast of the Kakariko entrance. The Zoras have their own problem: their princess is missing.

Zora River
The current is too strong to swim against. Talk to Kaepora Gaebora, then bomb the cracked boulders blocking the path. Note the plant with butterflies around it.
Magic Beans: the man snacking by the sealed gate sells them. Each one you buy costs 10 Rupees more than the last. They take years to grow, but every soft soil patch can hold one. Buy at least two now. Drop a bug in the soil next to him first for a Gold Skulltula, then plant a bean.
Jump across the river on the ledges to get around the gate. Octoroks pop up and spit rocks: stand still behind your shield and the rocks bounce back at them.
Jumping back to the left bank, note the lone Cucco behind the sealed gate.
Frog choir: in an alcove on the north cliff, frogs sit on stumps. Stand on the stump and play songs. Each new song grows a frog and pays out (50 Rupees in all for Saria's Song, Epona's Song, the Sun's Song and Zelda's Lullaby). Come back as you learn more.
Blue Tektites skate across the water. Lure them onto land, block, and jump attack.
Zora River Pieces of Heart (Cucco gliding)
Where the river splits southwest, there's a high ledge at the back of the big island. You can't swim up to it, but you can glide.
Go back for the Cucco by the sealed gate. Clear the enemies, throw it up the last ledge before you climb, then glide down to the island's high platform. Climb the vines to the top.
Bomb the cracked boulder in the ruins for a grotto with a Fairy Fountain.
On the south side of the island, cross to a high ledge with another grotto: a chest with a Business Scrub Seed and a second Cucco.
Carry that Cucco to the narrow platform with the Sheikah Stone and glide down to the platform above the frogs: Piece of Heart.
Keep that Cucco. By the waterfall at the end of the river, cross the platforms to the high ledge on the far side and glide northwest to a tiny platform: second Piece of Heart.
Open Zora's Domain
Careful by the falls: falling in sweeps you back downriver. The water at the base is shallow, with vines up to the central platform. At the top of the arching platforms, the plaque says the falls sleep when the princess sleeps. Play Zelda's Lullaby and the waterfall parts.
Zora's Domain
Climb the big staircase to King Zora. Princess Ruto is missing, and she has the Spiritual Stone of Water. You can't swim well enough to help yet, he says.
Silver Scale: follow the waterway out of the throne room to the top of the waterfall. The Diving Instructor throws five scales into the water below: you have 40 seconds. Hold A to dive on the shiny blue scales. The remake's swimming makes this easy. You win the Silver Scale for deeper dives. It also opens the deep pool outside the domain: a shortcut to the Lost Woods.
Torch run (Piece of Heart): light a Deku Stick on one of the two torches at the throne room entrance. Run down the steps lighting each torch, putting the stick away and taking it out again between them. At the bottom, take the path behind the big waterfall and light the last two braziers. The chest that appears holds a Piece of Heart.
A Zora mentions a dive that took him out of the domain. Dive through the small hole in the wall of the main pool: it takes you all the way to Lake Hylia.
Lake Hylia
Swim toward the stream of bubbles ahead of you and dive to the bottom: an Empty Bottle with a letter inside. It's from Ruto: she's trapped inside the Zoras' guardian fish, Lord Jabu-Jabu. Take the news to King Zora, but finish up here first.
Lakeside Laboratory: the old man studies the lake and lets you try his diving pool, but you still can't reach the bottom.
Soft soil outside the lab: drop a bug for a Gold Skulltula and plant a Magic Bean.
Scarecrows (east shore): play any tune for Pierre. His friend Bonooru asks for a full 8-note song you make up. Write it down: you'll need it later.
Past the lab, across the rope bridge, Kaepora Gaebora waits by a gravestone and offers a ride to Hyrule Castle. Pull the headstone back: inside, light three of the four torches with Din's Fire for a Red Rupee.
The main island has a big tree, a pedestal and a plaque too dirty to read. Nothing to do there yet.
Swim to the far southwest shore (a pot there has a fairy). At the southern tip, climb the tiny ledge and shuffle through the tunnel for a Gold Skulltula.
Fishing Pond (Piece of Heart): across from the scarecrows. Rent a rod, cast near a big fish in the middle, then pull gently with ZR and wiggle the line. When it bites, hold the stick toward whichever side it's fleeing until it tires, then hold ZR to reel in. Repeat. A fish over 40 cm wins a Piece of Heart.
Spoiler: Dodongo's Cavern.
Zora River: soft soil next to the Bean Seller (bug).
Zora River, night: behind the vines at the base of the waterfall near the domain entrance.
Lake Hylia: soft soil outside the Lakeside Laboratory (bug).
Lake Hylia: through the narrow tunnel at the southern tip of the southwest shore.
Zora's Fountain: roll into the tall thin tree on the land south of Lord Jabu-Jabu.
