Lon Lon Ranch and Epona's Song, all 7 Cuccos, 7 Gold Skulltulas, the Sun's Song, a free Hylian Shield and 5 Pieces of Heart before Death Mountain.
Updated Nov 6, 2026. Unofficial guide by Nexzy.
Next stop is the Spiritual Stone of Fire on Death Mountain, and the road there runs through Kakariko Village. There's a lot to grab first: a song at Lon Lon Ranch, a free Hylian Shield in the graveyard and five Pieces of Heart.
From here on, day turns to night on its own, even in towns. The Castle Town drawbridge stays open at all hours.

Tip
New in the remake: roll, then keep holding A and Link breaks into a run. It doesn't use stamina, so it's the fastest way across Hyrule Field as a kid.
Lon Lon Ranch
The ranch sits straight ahead of the Castle Town drawbridge. Go past the buildings to the horse field (in the daytime). Malon is singing to a shy foal, Epona. Take out your ocarina and play along:
X, Y, A, X, Y, A
You learn Epona's Song and Epona comes running. You're both too small to ride for now. This opens the "Malon's Friend" thread in the Threads of Time: side threads like this can be finished later.
Piece of Heart: in the broken tower in the far southwest corner, the storeroom has nine milk crates. Pull out the closest crates so two spots in the middle column are empty, then pull the middle crate back from the wall. Crawl through the gap for the Piece of Heart. Four pieces make a new heart.
Talon's Super Cucco game: Talon is asleep among the chickens in the main house. Wake him and he hides three Super Cuccos in the flock. They stand stiff and upright with their wings pointing down, heads high, and flap now and then. Find all three in time for Lon Lon Milk in an Empty Bottle. The milk heals twice.
Ingo works in the stables in the smaller building and complains about his boss.
When you're done, leave the ranch and take the stone stairs northeast up to Kakariko Village.
Kakariko Village
The guard at the entrance points out the main spots. The Death Mountain gate is up the stairs on the left, but there's plenty to do here first.
Cucco Lady (Empty Bottle)
South past the building under construction, below Impa's old house, the Cucco Lady has lost all seven Cuccos. Pick one up and you can glide with it from high places.
Wandering the scaffolding at the construction site near the Cucco Lady.
By the village entrance gate.
In a wooden crate in the middle of town, beside the house of the woman cooking for the village.
On the brick pile near Impa's house. Carry Cucco 3 up to Impa's house and glide down to it.
On the stairs up to the Death Mountain trail, past the tall wooden tower.
Behind the fence by the windmill on the west side, below the closed Potion Shop. Glide over the gap in the fence with any Cucco, then throw it back over so it isn't stuck. A hole on this side leads to a grotto with a chest (5 Rupees).
On the hilltop behind the windmill: throw Cuccos 6 and 7 back over the fence toward the well, then climb the ladder.
Bring all seven back to the pen for an Empty Bottle.
Tip
Piece of Heart on a roof: with the Cucco from the hilltop, jump to the blue roof of Granny's Potion Shop. Walk across toward the wooden tower: a man lying on the lower roof is so happy to have company that he gives you a Piece of Heart.
House of Skulltula
The web-covered house on the north side, below the windmill, holds a family cursed into half-spiders by their greed. Every Gold Skulltula token you collect brings them closer to human, and they reward you along the way.

Tip
Keep a bug in a bottle. Release it on any patch of soft soil and it digs out the Gold Skulltula hiding there. Every soil patch has one. Cut grass to find bugs, like in the garden by Impa's house or just outside the village.
Lon Lon Ranch: in the yard behind the main house (northeast), roll into the tall thin tree. More come out on the ranch at night, but you can't reach them yet.
Kakariko, center: roll into the thin tree where the Master Craftsman yells at his workers (his son is there at night).
House of Skulltula, night: the small golden web just left of the door. This gets you to 10 tokens: go inside for the Adult's Wallet.
Construction site, night: high on the red brick wall. Climb the scaffolding.
Wooden tower, night: on the ladder of the tall tower by the path to the Death Mountain gate. Shoot it, then climb up.
Behind a house, night: south of the tower and Potion Shop, walk around the back of the house where the little boy lives.
Graveyard soft soil: up the steps on the left, past a small tree. Drop a bug (check under the rocks at the graveyard entrance if you need one).
Open the Death Mountain gate
The guard won't let anyone up the trail without royal business. Show him Zelda's Letter and he opens the gate, laughing it off. He warns about falling rocks, says he'll get you the Hylian Shield at the Bazaar for 60 Rupees instead of 80, and asks you to pick up a mask for him at the new Happy Mask Shop.
Skip the shield purchase: you can get one for free in the graveyard.
The Graveyard
The graveyard behind the village holds the Sheikah, protectors of the royal family.
Daytime: a boy pretends to be the gravedigger and threatens to tell on you if you touch the graves.
Night: the real gravedigger, Dampe, doesn't mind. Ask for his Heart-Poundin' Grave-Diggin' Tour: lead him to a dirt mound and pay 10 Rupees to dig. Most spots give a few Rupees or nothing. When he finds something heavy and asks for 5 more Rupees, that's the Piece of Heart.
Pull graves from behind: some are empty, some have a Green Rupee, some release a Poe. Poes turn invisible when you target them and charge with their lantern. Back off until they reappear, then run in, hit, roll forward and hit again. A Poe's soul fits in a bottle, but drinking it hurts you.
Royal Tomb and the Sun's Song
At the back, two harp-shaped graves flank a stone with the royal crest. Touch each harp grave to fight the Composer Brothers, Sharp and Flat. Fight them like Poes.
They tell you the king had them write a song and that they hid it in the royal tomb. Stand on the crest and play Zelda's Lullaby to open it.
First room: the doors lock. Keese (bats) hide in the walls and dive at you. Shoot them early with the slingshot, or block and hit back.
Second room: green bubbling goo hurts you, and Redeads freeze you with a scream and grab on. Walk slowly along the left of the first pit, then run up the middle between the two Redeads and out the far door.
The plaque at the end teaches the Sun's Song: A, R, X, A, R, X. It switches day and night instantly.
On the way out, have Navi read the blue Fairy Writing on the pillars. It asks for the Sun's Song: play it and a fairy heals you fully.
Back with the Redeads, play the Sun's Song next to them. It stuns the undead for a long time, so you can take them out safely.
Graves worth pulling now
Flower grave: from the entrance, go up the first steps. In the first row, it's the second grave from the top, before the next stairs, with flowers and butterflies. There's a tomb below, but it's sealed until you can blow things up.
Hylian Shield: in the row just before the steps to the royal tomb, the second grave on the right. Stun the Redead inside with the Sun's Song, beat it and open the chest for a free Hylian Shield.
Piece of Heart: in the same row, the grave at the far south end. No enemies, just a big chest with a Piece of Heart. That's your fourth one, so you get a new heart.
Back to Castle Town
Happy Mask Shop (now open): you borrow a mask for free, wear it while talking to people, sell it to whoever wants it, then pay the shop its price and borrow the next. Borrow the Keaton Mask (10 Rupees), sell it to the Kakariko gate guard for 15 and keep the 5. Then borrow the Skull Mask: you'll find a buyer soon.
Richard the dog (night): a woman's little white dog is lost among the strays that fill town at night. Go down the alley past the Bombchu Shop. Richard is around the back corner near the Treasure Chest Shop. Other white dogs are in the alley too, so you might need another try. Talk to him so he follows you and bring him back for a Piece of Heart.
That's everything you can do for now. Head back through Kakariko and up the Death Mountain trail to Goron City.
